The fire brigade was called to the site because of a fire in one of the wagons of a passenger train. The windows consisting of thick insulated glass were black and hot, and meassured about 55 degrees from outside. With an infrared camera the fire in the front of the wagon was revealed and on the right side an area of approximately 1m2 measured about 180 degrees. The coldcut™ cutting extinguisher was used for about 5-7 minutes before the operation with fire fighters with BA equipment began.
When the fire fighters went into the wagon the temperature was low, about 55 degrees in the ceiling, so there was no risk of ignition of fire gases. In addition, the visibility had improved to 3-4 meters.
With conventional fire fighting the consumption of water would probably have been greater, in particular to cool fire gases in the 25 meter long wagon.
