Cobra High Rise test in Rotterdam

Cobra on Evaluation at Rotterdam-Rijnmond Brandweer, NL

(More high rise tests? >> Read about high rise test in Gothenburg Sweden)

There were two purposes of the test:

1. To evaluate the piercing capability of the Cobra system at 70 meter elevation above the pump

2. To practice establishing Cobra through stair cases at a bridge head on the 23th floor.

During this test the hose was pulled through the staircase to an elevation of 70 meters above the pump. To reach the top from the parking place of the firetruck, 300 meters of hose was used

Lesson learned test 1 (To evaluate the piercing capability of the Cobra system at 70 meter elevation above the pump)

  • Radio connection failed  (override function was used)
  • The water and abrasive supply was normal
  • The cutting times through 12 cm concrete was normal (no pressure was measured, this was done at a later test in Sweden - read more >> High Rise Gothenburg, Sweden Älvsborgsbron.)

Lesson learned test 2 (to practice establishing Cobra thru stair cases at a bridge head on the 23th floor.)

  • Establishing bridgehead through 23 floor staircases is time consuming and require training.
  • Personnel should be well familiar with the building.
  • Similarly, disestablishment of 300 meter hose needed training, “bird’s nest” was quickly created.
