In August 2024, the Fire and Rescue Service of the Utrecht Safety Region responded to a fire involving an electric agricultural vehicle at a workshop in Lopik, the Netherlands.
After initial extinguishing efforts, the fire re-ignited as gases escaped from the lithium-ion battery pack, indicating thermal runaway. Cobra was deployed to cool the battery internally and stop further propagation.
The targeted cooling stopped propagation within minutes using a minimal volume of water. The fire was quickly brought under control, avoiding immersion and limiting damage and downtime.
This case shows how Cobra can support a safe and controlled response to a high-risk lithium-ion battery fire.
