During routine operations, fire crews may be dispatched to small-scale fires such as waste bins, containers, vehicle interiors, or minor outdoor fires. These incidents typically do not require Cobra’s high-pressure lance but still demand controlled suppression to prevent fire spread or secondary effects, particularly in densely built or environmentally sensitive areas.
In these cases, the Multi-Purpose Nozzle (MPN) can be connected directly to the Cobra hose using a standard quick coupling. This allows for a quick transition from the high-pressure lance to a conventional-style spray nozzle. The MPN operates at lower pump pressure and features an adjustable spray pattern, which makes it suitable for situations where more controlled water application is needed.
Using MPN in Urban Response
Upon arrival at a small fire, such as a smouldering trash bin or grass fire, crews can quickly switch from the Cobra lance to the MPN. The transition is straightforward thanks to the quick coupling. Once attached, the nozzle delivers either 30 or 60 litres of water per minute, depending on the system (C330 or C360), at a reduced pump pressure.
The reduced pressure is approximately 20 bar at the nozzle, (up to 80 bars at the pump), which is effective for suppression while minimizing water splashback and physical strain. The adjustable spray pattern, ranging from a narrow jet to a wide cone, allows firefighters to match water application to the fire’s behaviour and stage, whether it’s active suppression or damping down.
The MPN enables a throw length between 15 to 20 meters. The nozzle can be used for post-extinguishment control and application of cooling water without the need to switch equipment. This can simplify the workflow and reduce time spent on scene.
The nozzle is intended for regular operational use and can be cleaned using standard procedures. It tolerates industrial cleaning at temperatures up to 70°C.
Maximizing Operational Impact
The MPN provides an alternative application method within the Cobra system. It shares the same hose and pump setup and can be used without additional equipment.
The compact size and variable spray pattern make it usable in environments where space is limited, for example, in vehicles, grass fires or trash bin fires. In such settings, it can be used for direct suppression, surface cooling, or damping, particularly where water use must be limited.
MPN is not intended to replace standard low-pressure nozzles, but can be applied in situations where Cobra is already in use and a lower flow of water is sufficient.
Cobra Multi Purpose Nozzle Benefits
Fast and flexible deployment.
Thanks to the quick coupling, the MPN can be deployed within seconds, using the same hose as the Cobra lance. It reduces the need to carry or connect additional hose systems during small-scale incidents.
Reduces water usage.
Operating at 30 or 60 litres per minute, MPN supports Cobra’s overall water-saving approach. An 1800-litre tank can provide up to 30 minutes of continuous use, useful in both urban and remote locations.
A multi-functional firefighting tool.
MPN is not a specialised nozzle, but a general-purpose tool for smaller fires, damping down, decontamination, or foam application. It gives firefighters more flexibility with minimal additional equipment.
Cobra Benefits
- Quick to deploy and easy to handle
- Uses significantly less water
- Versatile in many fire scenarios
