Carl Batchelor joins the Cobra team

We are delighted to announce that Carl Batchelor has agreed to join the Cold Cut Academy team part-time as Tactical Firefighting Coordinator based in the UK. Welcome to the Cobra family, Carl!

Please get to know Carl in his own words in his bio below.

Carl Batchelor

I started my Fire Service career in 1984 when I joined West Midlands Fire Service as a wholetime firefighter. I have worked at some of the busiest Fire Stations in the service and attended a wide variety of incidents both at firefighter and officer level.

In addition to my operational experience, I have been involved in researching and writing national guidance, procuring specialist equipment, developing and building new fire training buildings, leading, developing and managing teams, accident investigation and working as part of a small specialist team as a drone pilot.

I spent around seven years in the training department, eventually heading up a team of staff delivering Breathing Apparatus, Fire Behaviour and Tactical Ventilation training to operational crews, officers, and external organisations through accredited instructor courses.

I achieved the role of Station Commander (temporary) and retired from service in 2016. I then started working at The Fire Service College, Moreton-In-Marsh, Cotswolds, as an independent trainer delivering training in the areas of Breathing Apparatus, Fire Behaviour, Tactical Ventilation and, more recently, the Firefighter Development apprenticeship program.

I am married with two grown-up daughters and teenage twin boys, and a more recent addition to our family is our pet Doberman, whom we all adore. I enjoy being outdoors, am a keen cyclist and walker and enjoy cooking both indoors and out.
